We believe your body deserves the best of the best. It's true! Which is why our granola is filled with organic, wholesome, good-for-you ingredients. "Organic", you say? What does that mean exactly? Don't worry I used to have no idea either ... I just knew that it was "better for me" for one reason or another!
According to Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary, organic \ȯr-ˈga-nik\ is "of, relating to, yielding, or involving the use of food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides"
So, no fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides. Great. But the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) is the one who actually certifies our foods as organic. So, we should probably know what they have to say about the matter.
The USDA says that organic "is a labeling term that indicates that the food or other agricultural product has been produced through approved methods that integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, and genetic engineering may not be used."
That's a lot, I know. I had to read back through it ...slowly... to make sense of it all. In a more simplified explanation (in my own words), I think that "organic" means simply real. wholesome. pure. Nothing fake about it. It's just as it is and should be. Kind of like in the good ol' days when pesticides and chemicals and growth enhancers didn't even exist. The farmers sowed their land, watered their crops, and let the sunshine do it's job.
So that's exactly why we believe in using good, wholesome, organic ingredients. We also believe you should know exactly what is in your food. So below are all of the ingredients you will find in our Goin' Nuts.
Local NC Honey
Organic Sunflower Seeds
Pure Organic Maple Syrup
