Green Smoothie Breakfast Bowl


We love smoothies, especially this one and this one. So after seeing dozens of scrumptious looking smoothie/breakfast bowls all over Pinterest and Instagram, we knew it was time to create our own!

We love starting our day with a good green smoothie, packed with a healthy dose of greens and fruits. So, we've taken our favorite green smoothie recipe and created the most delicious smoothie/breakfast bowl. Ever. We've topped it with some protein-rich nut butter, sweetened it up with some granola, and added a healthy dose of omega-3s from organic chia seeds.

Let's be honest. Starting your day with this bowl of nutritious deliciousness pretty much guarantees that you're going to change the world. Eat up. Then go do big things, lady!


Green Smoothie Breakfast Bowl
(serves one)

1 banana, chopped, frozen
1 cup spinach, loosely packed
1/2 cup kale, loosely packed
1 cup pineapple
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)

toppings:
2-3 tbsp peanut or almond butter 
1/4 cup Goin' Nuts granola
1 tsp chia seeds
dried coconut, to taste

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into a bowl. Add toppings. Enjoy!

Salted Chocolate Popcorn with Granola


I had my first taste of sweet, delicious chocolate on my very first Easter. I was three months old. My sweet-tooth-loving grandmother couldn't wait any longer. Bless her heart, that Easter afternoon she passed along her very strong sweet tooth to her third granddaughter. Yes, it's true. I have a slight obsession with everything chocolate. And sweets in general.

I'm also a popcorn fan. It's typical to find me snacking on a bowl of fresh, stove-top popped popcorn most every afternoon. Salted. It's the best. So why not combine my two loves and create a sweet and salty delight. I thought it was a great idea. The finished result, though, is even better than I imagined.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you Salted Chocolate Popcorn with Granola. Stove-top popped deliciousness. You can of course make this using microwave popped popcorn. I promise you, though, that if you try this ... you'll never go back to microwave-popped popcorn ever again. Ever. It's that good.

If you have kiddos around, they're going to LOVE this. They'll stand over the pot waiting ... patiently ... for that first pop. It's the most amazing thing. Beware - they're going to start asking you for this every day. Every. Single. Day. But its OK. You'll want it every day, too!


Salted Chocolate Popcorn with Granola
(serves a crowd; makes one large bowl)

3/4 cup popcorn kernels
1/4 cup + 2 tbsp sunflower oil
salt, to taste
1/2 cup chocolate
1-2 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 cup Goin' Nuts granola

1. Add kernels to a large pot. They should completely cover the bottom of the pot.
2. Top with sunflower oil. The oil should barely cover all kernels.
3. Place over medium heat. It will take a few minutes before you hear the first few pops. Once the kernels begin popping, you will have 45seconds - 2min before the popcorn is ready. When the popping starts to slow and there's more time in between each pop, you're almost done. Once the pops are 5-10s apart, you can remove from the stove and dump into your bowl.* Make sure not to wait too long or your popcorn will start to burn.
4. Melt chocolate and coconut oil over a double boiler or in your microwave (heat for 10 seconds at a time, stirring in between). 
5. Drizzle chocolate over popcorn and top with salt (sea salt or kosher salt is best) and granola. 
6. Now dig in! You won't be able to stop!!

*Be very careful! Some kernels like to pop once they're in the bowl and can send popcorn flying out of the bowl!

One for One: How Do We Do It?


 One in every seven people in the U.S. are struggling with hunger right now. They aren't able to provide enough food to feed their families. They're going to school hungry, on empty bellies. Chocolate + Granola + Peanut Butter Smoothie


Breakfast. Dessert. Mid-afternoon snack. Late night treat. This smoothie is perfect for any time of the day!! After all, is there ever a bad time for chocolate?

Naturally sweetened with a banana and pineapple and jazzed up with a rich, creamy nut butter (we used peanut, but almond would be great too), this smoothie is made to fill you up and put a smile on your face. We've added granola to the top for a delicious crunch. Our favorite for this recipe is our Goin' Nuts. You could also use An Apple a Day, with the apple chips removed, for a delicious flavor of cinnamon and nutmeg - this would be great for the cooler months!

This is my favorite afternoon indulgence. It curbs my 3 o'clock sweet tooth and leaves me feeling great afterwards - no sugar crash! It's also very filling which is great to hold me over until dinnertime.

Whatever time of the day, I'm sure you're going to fall in love!


Chocolate + Granola + Peanut Butter Smoothie
(serves one)

1 banana, ripe
1/4 cup pineapple
2 tbsp peanut butter
1/2 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
1 tbsp cocoa powder
4-6 ice cubes 

Blend everything together. Pour into a glass. Top with granola. Let your taste buds do a little dance!

Apple and Granola Sandwich


We all love a good sandwich, but today, we're taking the sandwich to a whole new level!! We're swapping out the usual bread for fresh sliced apple and stuffing it with peanut butter and granola. Sweet and delicious! This snack (or breakfast) is perfect for all ages, young and old. Kids will love spreading their peanut butter onto their apple "bread" slices!! You could even add a little jelly to recreate the beloved PB&J. And this is a great quick and easy, on-the-go breakfast option for you busy ladies and moms. It also makes for one amazing, protein-packed snack! This is sure to keep you full and away from those sugar-loaded, empty calorie snacks that it's so easy to run to.

Apple and Granola Sandwich
(serves one)

1 apple
4 tbsp peanut butter (or any nut butter)

1. Core and slice one apple into 4 rounds.
2. Spread 2 tbsp peanut butter onto 2 rounds.
3. Top each round with 1 tbsp granola. 
4. Top with a remaining apple slice and enjoy!

How to Make Giving Back a Part of Your Daily Life


The ripple effect of giving back in small ways has a HUGE impact. Making the world a better place doesn't take some gigantic idea. It takes lots of small acts of kindness strung together day after day after day. It takes lots of individual choices to do better and love more. Change doesn't start in some large corporate office around a big sophisticated table. No, change starts with you. Right where you are. At home. At the store. At work. Picking up your kids. When you make giving back a part of your everyday life, it impacts the world around you. Amazingly, it also impacts you. In one of the greatest possible ways.

We're no strangers to giving back. Our One Bag. One Meal. program is at the very heart of everything we do. Fighting hunger. Giving back. Making the world a better place. This is the why behind Nothin' but Nola. So, today we're feeling inspired by our one for one model and want to share with you 8 awesome and easy ways to make giving back a part of your daily life, using the one for one model!

Teach your kids about giving back and sharing with others. Create a challenge amongst a group of friends to see who can do the most good in one week (now that's our kind of challenge)!! Set a goal to do at least one of these once a week. Make giving back a part of your daily life. 

1. Buy one extra canned good for every canned good you purchase and donate to your local food bank.

2. For every compliment you receive, give one to a stranger.

3. When you go to the grocery store, for every grocery cart you use (typically one!), put away one random grocery cart that was left in the parking lot.
 
4. For every note you receive in the mail, send one to a friend that needs some love! 

5. For every pound of produce you purchase at the store, purchase the equivalent and donate to your local food bank.

6. For every dinner out that you treat yourself to, donate the equivalent of one meal to your local food bank (average $0.16).

7. For every hug you receive, give one to someone else! :)

8. Make an effort to purchase products with one for one models!
